The New Kid in Class

This is my new carpool buddy:
Today was Aaron's first day of preschool. Until now, he was cared for by a nanny in our home.

The first thing Aaron did at school was explore--and I mean REALLY explore. He wandered alone into other classrooms, the administrative office, the computer room...

One of his classmates quickly took Aaron under his wing.

Here's Nolan inviting Aaron to play and handing him a sand toy.

To ease Aaron's separation from us, I left the school first and he was okay because Aden was still there. But when Aden left, the teacher had to hold back a frantic and crying Aaron.

The teacher said Aaron recovered quickly after we left. Aaron had joined an intact class. All the kids already knew each other and Aaron was the new one. Even so, the teacher reported that Aaron was the most talkative. Oh boy.

Aden says Aaron gets it from me. Unfortunately, he's correct :(

As I expected, Aaron didn't eat much for lunch. (He generally doesn't eat when he's in a new environment or is distracted.) So on the way home, he ate his clementine and strawberries from lunch in record time declaring, "I'm a Hungry Caterpillar!"

During the 45-minute drive home (so much for leaving early to beat L.A. traffic), Aaron wanted to tell knock-knock jokes. Here's one that he made up in the car:
Aaron: "Knock-knock
Me: "Who's there?"
Aaron: "Poop!"
Me: "Poop who?"
Aaron: "Poo in the potty!" (roaring laughter)

At bedtime, Aaron declared, "I want to go to school." Hmm, could it be the pony rides tomorrow? (Click on schedule below to view larger.) In case you wonder, this is "summer camp" and all play. The school will get "academic" in August.

Love that carpool buddy shot! This is so bittersweet - were you a bit of a mess yesterday - I remember when you were pregnant and now he's off to preschool. I'm a little sad actually. :) He's gonna thrive.

That "work" schedule is awesome! Lucky Aaron. I want to ride ponies and watch Toy Story and Magicians, eat baby carrots and SLEEP from 1-3pm too! What's the age cut-off...?

Yay! Thank you for this. Were you a wreck or what?! I was for over a week, remember?

That looks like the best preschool ever! Pony rides!??!?!?! I am not looking forward to the girls first day of preschool in the fall. I'm sure I'll have a harder time leaving them. They'll probably be fine.
Aarons getting so big!
